When Microsoft introduced their Azure Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Protection Service in 2017, I would hazard a guess that no one could have predicted the magnitude of attacks today. This may be due in part to the readily available and cheap DDoS-for-hire services, making it easy for anyone to conduct targeted DDoS attacks.
In the second half of 2021, the world experienced an unprecedented level of DDoS activity, in both complexity and frequency. Despite the evolving challenges in the cyber landscape, the Azure DDoS Protection team was able to successfully mitigate some of the largest attacks ever, both in Azure and in the course of history.
